Power Technician Traineeships
Our four year Power Technician Traineeships give you the opportunity to both gain qualifications and benefit from hands-on experience. As well as attending formal training courses at our partner college, you’ll learn from experienced staff on a range of work placements in operations, engineering and maintenance, enabling you to apply the skills you’ve gained during your studies.
From your third year onwards you’ll spend the majority of your time at your base location. You’ll take courses relating to your specific discipline, as well as more general courses including IOSH Managing Safely, Leadership and Teamworking. On successful completion of the scheme you’ll be a skilled technician with an HNC qualification together with an EngTech accreditation with a leading Engineering Institute.

npower Future Leaders competition
A UK wide search for young Antarctic explorers!
If you’re an under or postgraduate, find out how you and three more students can enter the npower Future Leaders competition to win the ultimate prize of a trip to Antarctica.
In your team you need to identify a project that will get people in your local community living more sustainably. You need to manage this project from start to finish and ensure it has an enduring impact on your local community. The 10 teams with the best project ideas will attend an interactive team-building weekend in the Lake District and will then need to implement their project ideas before the Grand Final where a panel of judges will select the winning team.
npower Energy Challenge
The npower Energy Challenge is a well established competition for teams of undergraduates in their final or penultimate year. This competition brings together some of the UK’s brightest undergraduate minds and asks them, ‘What should a power generation company’s response be to climate change?’. Find out more about the npower Energy Challenge.
