Teacher Placements

Shape the Future – STEPS at Work

As part of our STEM engagement in increasing the pool of young people interested in STEM subjects and following a STEM career we support the STEPS at Work initiative and have delivered a number of STEPS at Work Teacher Placement opportunities at our engineering sites, including our power stations.

STEPS at Work (Science, Technology & Engineering Placements) is a national programme of professional placement opportunities for teachers and careers professionals. It runs as a partnership between The Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute for Education Business Excellence (IEBE).

The STEPS programme targets teachers of Science, Technology & Engineering subjects as well as those involved in helping to shape young peoples’ career plans.

During these placements teachers benefit from:

  • updated knowledge
  • essential networking
  • contacts for speakers and talks
  • better understanding of how maths and science are used in the work place and developing stronger links with businesses
  • improved information about careers in engineering and engineering routes
  • an improved image of engineering
  • a real context for science and engineering
  • resources and materials for lesson plans
