Our Climate Cops free teaching resource has been developed with practising teachers to provide a comprehensive set of tools to deliver a series of stimulating lessons for 4-7 year olds. Our resource supports the curriculum for Science, Citizenship and PSHE/PSD, Geography/Social Studies and Education for Sustainable Development.
The aim of our resource is to engage children in tackling the causes of climate change in a lively and stimulating way by making a positive difference to the way they use and save energy and electricity, with help from npower’s friends the Climate Cops. Visit npower.com/climatecops where your children can play our interactive energy saving games and down load Climate Cop materials and activities.
Activities
Children are invited to join the Climate Cops – Skye, Will, Oscar and their polar bear K’eyush – to explore how we use electricity every day. Working through a range of lesson plan activities they'll learn about energy in a four part journey covering:
- What is electricity and how is it used?
- How does electricity work? – including circuits and practical applications
- How to use electricity sensibly – including energy efficiency and safety
- Planning for the future
The Climate Cops resource includes:
Teacher booklet
1 x teacher booklet containing:
- classroom ideas for discussion and practical activities.
- 11 worksheets for photocopying, each linked to a topic area.
1 x Pledge card for children to consider how they plan to save energy and electricity, with a Climate Cops certificate on the reverse
3 x colourful A2 posters act as visual and/or interactive teaching aids. The posters can be written on using dry board markers
1 x A3 Safety awareness and energy efficiency poster with a Climate Cops energy game on the reverse.
“Climate Cops is packed with fun activities and experiments helping children to grasp tricky concepts such as circuits, energy efficiency, renewable energy and why it’s important to save electricity and energy to help the environment. It will enable my pupils to become more aware of how we should all be using energy safely and efficiently.”
