Putting our energy into volunteering
All npower employees are encouraged to take time out during the working week to put something back into the communities in which we live and work through our employee volunteering programme. Employee volunteering can be an ideal opportunity for team building and personal/professional development, helping to develop and share their own skills.
In 2013 over 20% of our employees volunteered their time to take part in projects to support the local community.
* Over 1400 employees participated in a ‘team challenge’. Run in partnership with Community Service Volunteers, the UK’s largest volunteering organisation, the programme provided employees with a range of opportunities to get involved and utilise their knowledge and skills to benefit local charities and community groups.
* Over 470 employees volunteered to support Macmillan Cancer Support, our charity partner. Through our employees’ passion and enthusiasm they have volunteered in a variety of activities, from supporting the iconic ‘Tree of Light’ Christmas fundraising and awareness campaign in London to making ‘Thank You’ calls to fundraisers on behalf of Macmillan.
* Over 200 employees supported our education programmes by volunteering to help young people develop their knowledge and skills through our interactive environmental Climate Cops events and science and engineering enthuse days.
